Making New Environmental Art
Making the concept in Procreate. Lev is NOT a fan of whatever this is going to be!
Starting the pixel art animation in Pixaki, a pixel art app on the iPad. I want some of these blobs to shrink while others grow, giving the animation a more fluid and organic feel. Also, the strands have to stretch and shrink…but they need to so in specific areas. Every animation is a new kind of challenge!
Here’s the animation, finished! Background is a static screenshot from the game.
The absurdium fungus in its environment, in-game! Dustin, the programmer, made a specific object that allows me, the artist, to easily place new assets into the game and even allow for certain degrees of interactivity. He adds more features to it all the time, ranging from giving an object physics to allowing it to have triggers for new animations and sound. It’s all written in JSON, and this ensures that Dustin isn’t bogged down by too many tasks and that we can test the assets in-game much faster!
